Spinning your wheels?

A friend of mine has been avoiding meditation for years. This isn’t an “I just don’t have 5 minutes to stop and do nothing — I’m a busy woman,” attitude, it’s a “Meditation scares me, I’m not gonna do it, it ain’t gonna happen, and you’re not the boss of me so you can’t make me,” attitude.

While most people will tell you they’re too busy to meditate, what you’ll find is that meditation actually scares most people who aren’t familiar with it. There are (unfounded) religious connotations, even spiritual connotations, psychological aversions, the “woo-woo” factor… and while none of these fears are logical or correct, they are enough to stop people from benefiting from meditation.  read more »»

Life is like a taxi cab ride

Forrest Gump immortalized the phrase: “Life is like a box of chocolates… You never know what yer gonna get.” Well, this is kind of like that. But not really.
No, this post is just a quick reminder to flow with life, wherever it takes you. And, as usual, no moral is good without a story, so [...]

Practice makes perfect?

Does practice make perfect? Well, not exactly. Not the way you tend to think of it.
Little factoid about me: I’ve played the piano my entire life. In high school I taught myself to play the organ. It was such a great love of mine that I truly excelled. I was giving recitals and concert [...]

What’s your problem?

“You know what your problem is? You think you know everything. You think you’ve got it allllll figured out.”
You may have gotten this lecture from your parents or teachers, as a kid. If not, you’ve probably seen it in movies and TV shows. There’s a time when youth start becoming adults and seeing the world [...]

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

Life is full of surprises, isn’t it? When tragedy strikes, and we start asking the ‘difficult questions’. When we wander down an unfamiliar path, and our senses perk up. We’re definitely not in Kansas anymore. Walking through the wilderness we become vividly aware of possible danger lurking around every corner.
Like Dorothy and her friends, chanting “Lions [...]

Lyrics worth living

I love great music. I also love great lyrics. Kerli is a very talented artist whose songs have both. Maybe this song will inspire you to live a more intentional life. Take responsibility for the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in your life. Enjoy!
The Creationist, by Kerli

This is an old and funny poem
I accidentally overheard
It keeps the [...]

Just do it!

When I started taking voice-over training, one of the first concepts they taught was emphasis. Meaning, putting more weight on one word makes it the focus of the entire sentence.
They gave us the phrase: Mary had a little lamb, then had us practice emphasizing different words each time we said it. So by saying MARY [...]

Persistence prevails!

Todd Carmichael is a modern explorer who has just proven to the world that persistence pays off! He is the first American to travel — solo — to the South Pole. His journey was 600 miles in freezing temperatures and blistering winds, malfunctioning equipment, and little to no contact with the outside world.
But, it paid off.

I dream of bread…

Dreams are an important part of our lives. Considering we spend a third of our life sleeping, what happens during that time (dreaming), should not be underestimated. Many aboriginal cultures–present and past–have considered the dream world to be just as real as the conscious world.
I truly believe that while dreaming we tune into our subconscious and [...]

Round & round we go…

Where we stop, nobody knows! Feel like you’re life is going around in circles? Creating the same situations and relationships?
Sometimes the problem is that we find ourselves chasing our own tail, making the same mistakes. Until we finally realize that we must make a conscious effort to change. To break the cycles. Not all “bad” habits [...]
